In creating a monoprint I apply ink to the actual body of my subjects using traditional European or Japanese techniques. Nature provides the plate that I interpret by composing, inking, rubbing, and pulling a print. The final rendering resurrects my subjects with color and movement, immortalizing their beauty and inviting viewers to experience new ways of seeing and caring for the natural world. Matthew Monahan
